Mr. Harley Patterson


Music Director.jpgHarley Patterson became director of music of the First United Methodist Church in March, 1982.  He is a retired public music teacher with over 37 years of service.  He was a Career Level III teacher.  While serving in the United States Army in Korea, Harley sang in and later conducted the Eighth Army Chorus.

 

A graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, he has continued his studies in choral conducting at Belmont College, Middle Tennessee State University and Murray State University.  He is a life member of the American Choral Directors Association, West Tennessee Vocal Music Educators Association, Tennessee Music Educators Associate where he served as Tennessee All State Chair and a member of Phi Mu Alpha Professional Music Fraternity.  Harley has been a guest conductor and clinician throughout the Mid-South.  His choirs have received superior ratings, best in class and best overall in contests from Med American St. Louis to the Kennedy Center’s Adjudicator’s National Invitational in Washington, D. C.

 

Harley is married to Susan Sheeley Patterson and they have two grown children, James “Jim” and Katy.

 

The Chancel Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm and sings at the 11:00 worship service.  Anyone who likes to sing is invited to join us.  In addition to a weekly anthem, the Chancel Choir performs a Christmas and an Easter cantata with strings, woodwinds and other instrumental ensembles.
